For best results, collect one stool sample on one day. However, if unable to produce enough stool to fill the sample vials (test will be assigned "test not performed" (TNP) if inadequate sample is provided), it is up to the ordering provider's discretion on how to personalize the stool collection process to produce a stool for best results. It may be necessary to consider medication, supplements, fiber, water, or exercise in order to collect a stool sample. For example, if the patient is unable to create a stool without taking a laxative, the provider may advise the client to take a laxative to create a stool and then interpret the results based on knowing a laxative was taken.
