Yes. Iodine has a strong binding affinity for heavy metals (they act like “heavy metal magnets”). For this reason, iodine exposure prior to heavy metals testing (via food or contrast dye) may cause falsely lowered results. While foods high in iodine should be avoided 48 hours prior to urine sample collection, the iodine exposure from an IV contrast dye should be thought of as a "bolus" dose. A quick PubMed search revealed 30-60 day clearance before return to baseline iodine status. In other words, to avoid falsely lowered results, it’s best to wait 30-60 days before testing.
