For best results, avoid foods high in iodine (including dairy products) for 48 hours prior to Heavy Metals testing.
Iodine has strong binding affinity for heavy metals (they act like "heavy metal magnets"), so consuming iodine-rich foods prior to testing may cause falsely lowered results.
According to the USDA’s FoodData database:
- 1 cup of milk contains 89.1 micrograms of iodine.
- 1 tablespoon of ghee contains ~5 micrograms of iodine.
- 1 ounce of cheese contains ~12 micrograms of iodine.
Please discuss with your ordering provider if they have concerns about your ghee intake prior to collection.
