Yes. Excess biotin in patients’ blood samples can interfere with immunoassays because many use biotin as part of the testing methodology. High dose biotin supplementation (>5 mg/day) may lead to falsely elevated vitamin D25-OH, vitamin B12, and folate results. Additionally, high dose biotin may lead to falsely lowered ferritin results. As it is difficult for the laboratory to identify biotin-containing specimens, people taking high dose biotin should discontinue biotin supplementation at least 12 hours (or preferably 24-48 hours) prior to specimen collection.
