What is the critical value for serum potassium?

Vibrant established a critical value of >6.5 mmol/L for potassium. Results of 6.5 or greater will be verified by repeat analysis and the ordering provider will be contacted for read back confirmation of notification. Elevated potassium results above the upper cutoff but below the critical value should be investigated to determine etiology.
