Is there a way to know from my Tickborne results if I have an active or old infection?

Yes. Active infection diagnosis is almost always based on DNA/RNA. Antibody tests are an indirect way of measuring presence of an infectious agent. In other words, positive DNA/RNA results on the Tickborne test indicates the patient has and active infection. However, DNA/RNA can be tricky to detect for tickborne infections since these organisms are in low abundance and are hard to find. This is the reason Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) came up with an antibody based test to diagnose patients. Using the CDC criteria, testing for active infection using antibodies can be done by testing the patient 2 times spaced out by 1 to two months; a modulation of response especially if antibody class shifts from IgM to IgG is indicative of active infection.
