How long it takes to improve intestinal permeability varies widely per the patient and the protocol used. Therefore, it is up to the ordering provider’s clinical discretion when to re-test the Wheat Zoomer and/or Intestinal Permeability panel to best serve their patient. In celiac disease, the Celiac Foundation recommends retesting a celiac panel and gliadin antibodies 3-6 months after a diagnosis of celiac disease, 12 months after diagnosis, and annually thereafter. The rationale for repeat testing is to monitor disease activity and dietary adherence to a gluten free diet. Until more is known about non-celiac gluten sensitivity, wheat sensitivity, and wheat lectin sensitivity, it may be reasonable to retest according to the guidelines for celiac disease.
When should I re-test the Wheat Zoomer and Intestinal Permeability panel?
