Why is collecting the first morning void important for Total Tox Burden and Organic Acids?

The first voided morning specimen is recommended because it tends to be more concentrated, relatively free of dietary influences, and changes due to hydration and physical activity, thus abnormalities are more easily detected.

While first morning void is preferred, results will still be valid if a urine sample is collected later in the day (a "random" urine collection), because Vibrant uses creatinine concentration methodology, which corrects for urine dilution or concentration.

So, while the first morning void is the recommended method, adjusting for creatinine helps normalize these differences.

Note: If the patient accidentally filled the tube with a later void instead of the first, but has not shipped the tube out yet, they can simply pour out the vial and collect their first waking urine the next day.
