Normal white blood cell (WBC) counts are needed to ensure accurate Micronutrient results because intracellular nutrient levels are normalized to the total WBC count. In other words, results are calculated and expressed as a ratio of total WBC counts. Low WBC counts may falsely “concentrate” the analytes, resulting in false highs (e.g., 2/10 =20%). On the other hand, high WBC counts may falsely “dilute” the analytes, resulting in false lows (e.g., 2/100 = 2%).
What happens when white blood cells (WBC) are too low or too high?
