Urine neurotransmitter testing is a non-invasive, powerful tool for clinicians to use as a functional assessment of the nervous system. Currently, many treatment interventions are guided by general diagnoses or trial-and-error with medications as opposed to specific testing for bioindividual neurotransmitter levels. Urinary testing provides clinically useful data to help guide clinicians when monitoring and treating neurological or mental health conditions. First, urine neurotransmitters may reflect central nervous system (CNS) levels of neurotransmitters. Secondly, peripheral neurotransmitter levels, which are reflected in the urine neurotransmitters test, also have important and significant effects on the body that are important to understand. For a deeper dive, please see the attached Neurotransmitters Interpretive Guide.
