Next generation sequencing (NGS) has high error rates and low sensitivity. It is great for discovery, but not for rigorous diagnostics. For example, NGS was useful to identify the sequence of the COVID virus, however even there the sample needs to be run 100 to 300 times to reduce errors, but when you want to accurately test for COVID PCR is used.
