Will oxytocin interfere with Saliva or Urine Hormones tests?

The Vibrant Saliva Hormones and Urinary Hormones tests have not been tested for interference with oxytocin, so the effect of oxytocin on the test performance is unknown.

Patients taking oxytocin may wish to consider allowing oxytocin to clear from the system prior to collecting a saliva or urine specimen.

IV oxytocin or intramuscular injection of oxytocin has a half-life of approximately 3-5 minutes, and intranasal administration has a half-life of approximately 2.25-4.0 hours.

To estimate oxytocin clearance, multiply half-life x 5 to allow time for oxytocin to clear from the system prior to sample collection.
