The only restrictions for neurotransmitters are bananas, pinepple, nuts, alcohol, protein powders and protein shakes up to 48 hours before collection.
Antibiotics have not been tested for interference against Vibrant's NT markers, however, some studies observed that antibiotics can influence neurotransmitter levels via
- the death of bacteria that can produce neurotransmitters (GABA, dopamine, serotonin)
- endotoxins released by the killed bacteria
- having a similar structure that mimics the neurotransmitters
The most conservative approach would be to avoid it, however, it is up to the ordering provider's clinical discretion to have the patient collect in a medicated state or not, and to determine how long to wait before collection.
