Indirect testing detects IgG and IgM antibodies using an immunochip and a multiplexed chemiluminescence immunoassay. Please note that antibodies can stay in the body even after an infection clears, so a positive result may either indicate past exposure or an active infection.

Direct testing detects Borrelia DNA using real-time PCR (probe-based qPCR). This test confirms the presence of bacterial DNA but cannot distinguish if it came from live or dead bacteria.
