Loss of protein in urine can affect how much toxin is carried in plasma, filtered, and ultimately excreted. This can result in varied toxin excretion rates, especially for toxins bound to albumin.
Examples of toxins bound to albumin include:
- Bisphenol A (BPA)
- Phthalates (especially mono ethyl phthalate, DEHP metabolites)
- Organochlorine pesticides (e.g., DDT and its metabolites)
- Per fluorinated compounds (e.g., PFAS)
Theoretically, the presence of proteinuria may either increase or decrease urinary excretion of certain toxins, depending on the underlying renal pathology.
While Vibrant does not reject urine samples with proteinuria, Vibrant hasn't tested samples against any underlying conditions. Therefore, Total Tox Burden or PFAS Chemicals results should be interpreted cautiously in the context of the patient’s underlying renal condition.
