Our platform utilizes PCR-based methods, which identify microbial DNA (genetic material) rather than relying on organism viability (living organisms).
Because of this, the assay is less dependent on full microbial recolonization and can detect residual or persisting microbial signatures even after recent antibiotic exposure.
Our collection will likely reduce the likelihood of acute antibiotic interference at peak concentrations and allow for initial microbiome stabilization post-therapy.
That said, clinical judgment remains important. In certain situations, such as when a provider's goal is to evaluate the microbiome after a more complete recovery from antimicrobial therapy, a longer washout period may still be appropriate at the provider's discretion.
