Genotype Risk Updates on Vibrant’s Genetic Reports

Genetics is a rapidly evolving field, and new research continues to refine our understanding of how genetic variants impact health. As part of our commitment to providing clinically relevant information, Vibrant regularly reviews scientific literature to ensure our genetic reports reflect the most current evidence. Following a recent review, we have made updates to the content and format of several genetic tests. 
 

Report Format

Across all updated genetic tests, we have transitioned from population-based wild type and mutant terminology to risk-based terminology. Genotypes are now classified as associated with normal risk, partially elevated risk, or elevated risk for a given health condition.

For providers familiar with the previous format, please note that homozygous and heterozygous status can still be determined from the updated reports. If a genotype shows the same letter twice (e.g. G/G), the result is homozygous — either for the normal allele (normal risk) or the risk allele (elevated risk). If the genotype shows two different letters (e.g. G/T), the result is heterozygous, and the associated risk level will depend on the specific SNP being analyzed.

Report Content

In addition to the format update, the risk classifications for select genotypes have been updated across several panels based on the latest scientific literature. The specific changes for each panel are detailed below.

Important Note on Previously Completed Reports

If you redownload a previously completed report for any of the affected tests listed below, it will reflect the updated format and, where applicable, updated risk classifications. The patient's underlying genotype result has not changed — only how it is classified and displayed.

Please review the test-specific notes below to understand how this may affect reports you have on file.

Nutrient Genetics (previous version: NutriPro)

The updated risk classifications for Nutrient Genetics are listed below. If you redownload a previously completed Nutrient Genetics report, it will reflect these updates. Please note that NutriPro reports are unaffected by this update and will continue to display wild type and mutant terminology.

 
Cardio Genetics (Previous version: CardiaX) 

The updated risk classifications for Cardio Genetics are listed below. If you redownload a previously completed Cardio Genetics or CardiaX Blood report, it will reflect these updates. Previously completed CardiaX Saliva reports will reflect the updated format; however, the risk classifications are unchanged. This means that CardiaX Saliva reports would still show the previously reported risk, as opposed to the updated risk. 

Antioxidant Genetics (Previous version: Oxidative Stress Profile)

The updated risk classifications for Antioxidant Genetics are listed below. If you redownload a previously completed Antioxidant Genetics or Oxidative Stress Profile report, it will reflect these updates.

Toxin Genetics (Saliva) (Previous version: Toxin Genetics (Blood))

The updated risk classifications for Toxin Genetics are listed below, which uses either Blood or Saliva as a sample type to identify the SNPs. If you redownload a previously completed Toxin Genetics (Saliva) or Toxin Genetics (Blood) report, it will reflect these updates.

Methylation Genetics

The updated risk classifications for Methylation Genetics are listed below. If you redownload a previously completed Methylation Genetics report, it will reflect these updates.
